Not even 4 months ago, Carlos Rosso made his development debut in Miami by launching The Standard Residences Miami in Midtown. Today, he celebrates being 70% sold out of his 228 pied-a-terre-style residences with a soiree at Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill in Midtown. Let’s talk about both!

About Sugarcane

For the newbies around here, Sugarcane has become a fixture in the neighborhood, having opened in 2010. Few restaurants in any city survive even a few years, much less 12 years plus factoring in a global pandemic.

Some of our favorite dishes at the eatery include the ceviche with a variety of sushi rolls, the “spice of love” cocktail and beet mojitos. If you visit for brunch, you’re truly missing out if you don’t check out the Cuban benedicts. They will make you want to slap your mama and ask her for beer money. It’s really like that. Since opening in Midtown Miami, the restaurant has expanded to the Venetian in Las Vegas as well as Dumbo in Brooklyn.

About The Standard Residences Miami

Now that we’re all sufficiently hungry, we need to talk about this project because it is definitely something new and different.

Each of the apartments in the 12-story building is between 432 to 965 square feet and designed to be a place to relax when the owner desires, or leased out on a short-term basis. This is the first time that The Standard has offered residences for sale. The success of the project is a natural outcome considering the migration of New Yorkers and others from the Pacific Northeast along with the amenities that Midtown has to offer.

Turnberry and Carlos Rosso Team Up For One Park Tower at SoLé Mia Next To UM Medical Center

 
The 184-acre SoLé Mia in North Miami is about to get its first luxury condo tower. Development powerhouses Turnberry Associates (Jackie Soffer and LeFrak) and Carlos Rosso (former president of the condo division at Related Group) have teamed up to bring a luxury 32-floor tower to the North Miami mega development.

SoLé Mia is a massive $4 billion development on the site of Biscayne Landing at 150th and Biscayne Boulevard. It is anchored by a pristine turquoise blue man-made lagoon on the premises. The lagoon is 7 acres, the size of 12 olympic swimming pools and offers a variety of activities including kayaking, paddle boards, beaches and more. The site is also adjacent to Oleta State Park for biking, hiking, camping, fishing and other more rustic activities.

The development is already home to rental properties, but once completed will house a host of rentals and condo buildings along with restaurants, Costco and the new 10-acre University of Miami UHealth Medical Center. It is expected that One Park Tower will be highly attractive to those who are employed by the medical center, as nobody is pretending that traffic is getting any easier in Miami. Who wouldn’t want to live on a lagoon and walk to work? It’s a no-brainer.

Amenities are set to include all of what you would expect and then some. There will be a sunset pool, pickleball courts, a wellness center with a gym that faces the lagoon, co-working spaces, a wine room, children’s playroom, and charging stations in the garage. And don’t forget that you don’t have to schlep all the way across town to go to Costco. This is clutch.

Carlos Rosso Makes His Development Debut With The Standard Midtown Miami

 
Last year, Carlos Rosso made jaws drop when he resigned from The Related Group. Why would he do such a thing? He is a staple at Related. He is Jorge Perez’s right-hand-man! They developed countless Miami towers together, including SLS Brickell, SLS Lux and Residences at Armani Casa! Well, now we know. It is time for Carlos to shine on his own, and he is starting by building his first tower in Midtown Miami, The Standard Residences.

The Standard is known around the world for its quirky yet chic brand image, offering a fun and comfortable vibe that is rich in culture. The open-concept floor plans will include studios, 1 bedrooms, 1 bedrooms with a den, and 2 bedroom options. The building will include 12 floors that have 9-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, smart technology, sleek Italian kitchens, premium Bosch appliances, stone countertops and detailed ceramic backsplashes. The bathrooms also feature sleek modern design with glass-enclosed showers, dual vanities with brass fixtures, dual shower heads. Each residence has wood-grained porcelain flooring, in-unit washer and dryer and a private terrace overlooking the Midtown neighborhood, Wynwood, Downtown Miami and/or the Miami Design District.

With the pied-a-terre-style, owners are offered a flexible rental program that allows 12 leases per year (leases that are a minimum of 30 days). This is not a common offering in the greater Downtown Miami area. Most buildings allow only 2 leases per year, with the minimum being 6 or 7 months.

“I like [the Standard’s] ethos. They don’t overextend themselves,” Carlos Rosso said. “They’re very boutique in that sense. And I like that it’s an honest brand. They’re not pretentious, but they’re cool and quirky. And I thought the Standard would attract people from New York and the Northeast, who are very familiar with the brand. The units are relatively small, about 600 square feet. This is perfect as a pied-à-terre for a New York guy.”
