Hibiscus Island Community Overview

Hibiscus Island is an exclusive, man-made island adjacent to Palm Island and Star Island in the crystal blue waters of Biscayne Bay, accessible only via the MacArthur Causeway, and part of the City of Miami Beach.

In the early 1930s, many celebrities and people in the news made their winter homes on Hibiscus Island by building huge mansions and estate homes on their waterfront properties. Upon entering Hibiscus Island, there is a children’s playground full of swing sets, slides and see-saws, which many years ago was the exact setting for a different kind of playground – the location of the famous Latin Quarter Nightclub.

Lou Walters, father of popular news anchor, Barbara Walters, owned the Latin Quarter which was the famous “hot spot” for attracting the most celebrated stars in the entertainment world. Performing three shows a night, the high-kicking chorus-girls showcased such entertainers and comedians as Jack Benny, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis, and Tony Bennett.

Hibiscus Island is a community of lavish, elegant, waterfront residences, and not far from any of life’s other necessities and enjoyment. Heading west on MacArthur Causeway, it is an easy drive to Downtown Miami, the Miami International Airport, Key Biscayne, and to local attractions in the Miami area. Heading east takes you to the exciting South Beach area for shopping, dining at famous restaurants, strolling through the Art Deco District, and enjoying the white sand beaches.
