Could Museum Park be Home to the Tallest Flagpole in the Entire Country?

American Flag

American Flag

A Coral Gables billionaire, Mike Fernandez, has a vision to construct the tallest flagpole in the country standing at 425 feet tall and 14 feet in diameter, right here in Miami.  This flagpole will be a $10 Million project and would proudly wave the American flag.  Now, this is not merely a vision since Mr. Fernandez has already started the process of looking for the perfect site in Miami.  After touring many different sites in Miami a few weeks ago, Mr. Fernandez has made his decision that he wants to place the flagpole on the southeast corner of Museum Park.  Museum Park is located in the heart of Downtown Miami right beside the American Airlines Arena.  Museum Park was just recently opened to the public on June 14, 2014 and has already become a popular landmark in Downtown Miami.

At this point, the placement site of the largest flagpole in the country is not yet official since it must be approved by the City of Miami.  According to the Miami Herald, Miami Commissioner, Marc Sarnoff, is not sold on the idea of the placement of the flagpole at Museum Park.  Mr. Fernandez has already stated that he will be putting up the flagpole somewhere, at this point, the location is still up in the air!

What do you think about Museum Park being home to the tallest flagpole in the country?

Museum Park Now Open in the Heart of Downtown Miami!

Museum Park in Downtown Miami

Museum Park in Downtown Miami

On Saturday, June 14, 2014, the long-anticipated Museum Park finally opened to the public in the heart of Downtown Miami. After waiting 14 years for Museum Park to open, Miamians are now ecstatic about the new waterfront park, especially since Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado recently announced that the city will no longer allow a pro soccer stadium to be built in the middle of Museum Park.

Museum Park, with an estimated construction cost of approximately $40 million, replaces the old and outdated Bicentennial Park. Bicentennial Park was rarely used and basically closed for years, except for special events, as it awaited its transformation into Museum Park. According to the Miami Herald, Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff stated that there was no reason for people to be in the old park, but now there are many reasons to be in the newly transformed, beautiful Museum Park.

Situated directly in front of Downtown Miami condos Ten Museum Park, Marquis Residences, 900 Biscayne Bay and Marina Blue, Museum Park, consists of 19 acres of green space, and includes the Perez Art Museum Miami, a new public plaza, a beautiful baywalk, a sandy “beach” near the water’s edge and the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, which is currently under construction.

So, when you are in Downtown Miami and need a bit of quiet, relaxation time, go sit under the shaded huge oak trees and enjoy the expansive views of Biscayne Bay, Port of Miami and the Downtown Miami skyline at the new Museum Park!
