Aventura Community Overview

Aventura, incorporated as the City of Aventura in 1995, is the Spanish word for “adventure.” It is located in the northeast section of Miami-Dade County, 12 miles north of Miami and 12 miles south of Fort Lauderdale, and has its own manager, city commission government and police department.

The most well-known feature of Aventura is its 2.4-million-square-foot indoor shopping mall. Aventura Mall is world-class shopping, anchored by major department stores such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, JCPenney and Sears, and has over 280 specialty shops, designer stores, trendy boutiques, Equinox Fitness Club, a 24-screen AMC movie theater and numerous restaurants, cafes and bistros to cover every cuisine you can imagine.

Another large shopping destination, in nearby Hallandale Beach, is the Village of Gulfstream Park, which offers a large selection of fashion boutiques, home accessory stores, nightclubs, dining and entertainment choices. Adjacent to the Village is the magnificent Gulfstream Park Racetrack, with a winter thoroughbred racing schedule and Casino with over 850 Vegas-style slot machines and poker.

Aventura is supported by the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system and opened its first public school in 2008, the Aventura Waterways K-8 Center. Several parks such as Founders Park, the Don Soffer Exercise Trail, Waterways Park, Waterways Dog Park and Veterans’ Park make up this community. The parks are tropically landscaped, offering playgrounds and facilities available for a variety of sports, activities, walking trails and jogging paths.

The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center is an exciting new landmark for Aventura. This elegant, high-tech facility offers a wide range of performing arts, musicals, concerts, cultural programs, and entertainment for all ages.
