Coconut Grove locals have been up-in-arms about the news that the City of Miami sent a letter to Scotty’s Landing demanding that the waterfront Coconut Grove landmark restaurant be packed up and gone in 60 days. But, here is the real scoop…Yes, on August 12, 2015, the City Manager sent a letter to Scotty’s Landing owner, Scott Wessel, stating that his company must vacate in 60 days, but that is because a new tenant is taking over Scotty’s in 60 days. Scotty’s is not closing, and the restaurant will remain the same quaint friendly place on Biscayne Bay that local Coconut “Groveites” like myself love.

See, the owners of the Grove Harbour Project, the soon-to-be 83,200-square-foot mega project where Scotty’s Landing and Chart House are currently situated, purchased the Scotty’s Landing name, and will be taking over Scotty’s. Business at Scotty’s will function as usual at least while the new Scotty’s Landing is being built behind the current location (where Chart House is now located). Once the new and improved location is built, the staff and crew will set up the same shop in the new location and the current location will be torn down. The new home for Scotty’s Landing will still include bay views, just not as close as they have now. The current Scotty’s will then become a nice public bay walkway.
Again, just to reiterate….Scotty’s Landing will not close down until the “new” Scotty’s Landing opens. My only concern is will the new Scotty’s Landing have the same feel and Grove charm??? We won’t know for sure until that day comes.
