Bayside Marketplace, the open-air shopping center situated along Biscayne Bay in the epicenter of Downtown Miami, will be undergoing a much-needed facelift starting this-coming October.
The modern-style designs for the extensive renovations of the staple waterfront mall were revealed on Wednesday by designer Zyscovich Architects. Bayside Marketplace is managed by General Growth Properties and Ashkenazy Acquisitions Corp. through a ground lease with the city of Miami.
The 1st phase of the makeover will consist of fixing up the 140,850 square feet of common outdoor areas by providing a new modern paint scheme, piers, bulkheads, new flooring on the upper levels, new stairs and railings, improved bathrooms and enhanced lighting, signage and landscaping for tenants.
Future plans for Bayside Marketplace include additional phases that would add retail space along Biscayne Boulevard along with doubling the size of its existing parking garage.
It seems that Bayside Marketplace, which has been an anchor in Downtown Miami since 1987, is now having to play “keep up with the Jones'” since many new ultra-luxe shopping centers are coming into the same area such as Brickell City Centre which will open this November, Miami Worldcenter, which will open in early 2019 just blocks away, and the Design District, which is only minutes from Bayside. The makeover of Bayside was much needed, to say the least, for the overall transformation of Greater Downtown Miami.
