Pantone recently announced their famous color of the year, and for 2018 Pantone 18-3838 a/k/a ‘Ultra Violet’ takes the cake.

The Pantone Color Institute is a world-renowned consulting service within Pantone that forecasts color trends across the globe and guides companies from around the world on color in brand identity, marketing and product development, which is crucial in a brands’ ability to leverage the power, emotion and psychology of color in their strategic efforts in design.

The Pantone Color Institute chose Ultra Violet, a dramatic shade of purple for its complex, inventive and imaginative attributes. This thoughtful purple shade communicates ingenuity, uniqueness and visionary thinking that points us to the future and lights the way to what is yet to come, according to Pantone. “The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute

In addition, mysterious shades of purple have long been symbolic of artistic brilliance, counterculture and unconventionality…just look at musical legends Prince and David Bowie. Historically, Ultra Violet has been associated with a mystical or spiritual quality and has been often used in meditation spaces to energize the communities and inspire connection.

Incorporate Ultra Violet in Home Decor

Liven up your 2018 or tone it down a notch by incorporating Ultra Violet into your home interiors. This dramatic shade of purple can transform a room into many different directions depending on the way it is used. For example, it can add a lot of brightness and spice up a room when paired with a tufted couch, an accent wall or a piece of artwork. Conversely, it can tone down a room when paired with subdued more modern pairings. But, whichever way that you intend to use Ultra Violet in your home, you can rest assure that it will make a statement in any space!
