Today, Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami is looking a lot more green. The Miami Downtown Development Authority (Miami DDA) has temporarily replaced a few parking lots, about 100 parking spaces, and 2 traffic lanes with active green parks. This project to turn Downtown more green and more walkable is a pilot project of Biscayne Green that will start today, January 6th and continue through January 26, 2017.
The plan to reimagine Biscayne Boulevard for this pop-up is to create an active public space with fun interactive elements that will allow Miamians and visitors to gather together, connect and envision what Downtown Miami could should be.
This pop-up installation, funded by the Knight Foundation and the Miami Foundation, is a “sneak peek” of what we can expect for the permanent version of the Biscayne Green project, which plans to eventually eliminate 4 median parking lots and cut 2 lanes off of each side of Biscayne Boulevard. In fact, the Florida Department of Transportation recently approved more than $400,000 worth of funding for a lane elimination analysis, which is the next step for the park project.
With the remarkable transformation that Greater Downtown Miami is currently undergoing, including the additions of the newly-opened Brickell City Centre, the highly-anticipated Miami World Center and all of the new residential and mixed-use projects, it should be no surprise that the next step is to get Miami to become a little more “car-less” and more walk/public transit-friendly.

Biscayne Green Grand Opening Get Down. Celebrate the grand opening of Biscayne Green with live music, art and handcrafted cocktails. (January 6 from 7–11 p.m.)
Biscayne Screen. Enjoy movies cuddled up on the Green with free blankets, popcorn and empanadas. (January 8, 15, and 22 from 7–10 p.m.)
Co-Working + Coffee + Wifi – Enjoy the fresh air and fuel up for the day with coffee and snacks. (January 11, 18, 25 from 9–11 a.m.)
Taste of Downtown – Enjoy a taste of downtown with specialties from some of the area’s hottest culinary masters. (January 14 from 6–10 p.m.)
Brunch on the Green – Sip on mimosas and nibble on brunch offerings from local foodie hotspots. (January 15, 22 from 11 a.m.–3 p.m.)
