Miami and the barrier islands are so much more than just sun and pretty beaches these days; Miami is an ever-evolving, trend-setting city that has truly become a top destination city on the global stage. So, why wouldn’t people from all around the world want to have a home in South Florida, whether it is their first, second, third, etc.?

Who is interested in buying property South Florida? According to the Miami Association of Realtors, which is the nation’s largest Realtor board and a primary source for statistical data regarding the South Florida real estate market, Columbia has been this summer’s top foreign country searching for South Florida real estate (just click site here). This should not be a surprise since last year during the same time period, Columbia was a close second just behind Brazil for the top foreign countries searching for South Florida real estate. Additionally, Columbia has led the Miami Association of Realtors rankings for 4 consecutive months and 14 of the last 19 months. Closely following Columbia at second and third was Canada and Brazil. With respect to the top international cities, Bogotá tops the list, with Ontario closely following in second.

With respect to domestic cities in the U.S. searching for South Florida real estate, it should be no surprise that New York City tops the list. For quite some time, New York City residents have seen Miami to be a great, quick relaxing getaway and many have planted roots here, whether for business or pure pleasure…many New Yorkers call Miami the “sixth borough” of New York.
