After a full reconstruction of the western part of the Venetian Causeway that has lasted almost 8 months to date, the scenic causeway across Biscayne Bay is scheduled to reopen on February 29, 2016.

According to the Miami Herald, an email was sent to Venetian Islands’ residents stating that the project would be substantially completed by the end of February after “significant construction had been accomplished that will result in a completely new bridge superstructure, substructure, approach roadway and lighting.”

The closure of the westernmost part of the Venetian Causeway – between Biscayne Island through the toll plaza and onto mainland Miami – was part of a 9-month, $12.4 Million replacement of the 90-year old weakened and patched bridge.

I am sure the residents along the Venetian Causeway are relieved to hear this news since they have had to travel east into Miami Beach and go all the way around to get to Downtown Miami for the better part of the past year.
